New rules to apply cscs card ?

You may have heard about the new changes that the CITB have bought in regarding the Green CSCS Labourer cards. There have been lots of rumors regarding this, but here are some facts below:

What are the changes?

The Green Construction Site Operative (CSO) card is now no longer being issued and has been replaced by the new Green labourer Card.

From when did these changes occur?

From the 1^st of July 2014 the Green Construction Site Operative (CSO) card will no longer be issued.

What do I need to do to get the new Green Labourers Card?

You will then need to apply for the new Green Labourer Card by doing the following:

1. Attending either of the following courses:

• 1 NVQ Level 1

Or

• CITB Site Safety Plus Health And Safety Awareness Course 

2. Passing the CITB Operative Health, Safety + environment test within 2 years of applying for a new card.

What do I do if I have an old style Green Card but it is not yet expired?

If you have a Green CSCS card that expires after 1^st of July 2014, the card will be valid until the expiry date. Having said that some large construction sites are asking that all operatives have the new Green Labourers card so it would be best to check with the site you are working on.

What if I only need to renew my Green CSCS card? Do the changes still apply?

*CSCS cards can be renewed up to 6 months before they expire. If you hold a green card CSCS Construction Site Operative (CSO) card that expires before the 31^st of December and have passed the operative level CITB Health, Safety + environment test you can renew your current CSO card before 1^st of July 2014.

How do I apply for my Green Labourer Card?

Steps to achieve the Green Labourer Card are as follows:

1. Book onto your NVQ Level 1 or CITB Health & Safety Awareness course–
2. Book onto your CITB Operative Health, Safety & Environment test
3. Apply for your Green Labourer Card

How do I book onto the CITB Health & Safety Awareness training course?

Can I book onto the CITB Operative Health, Safety & Environmental test prior to attending the CITB Health & Safety Awareness course?

You can book onto the test this prior to taking the CITB 1 day health and safety training course, but the test must actually be taken after the delegate has passed it.

No, the CITB will have your details uploaded onto their system from your CITB Health & Safety Awareness course.

CSCS GREEN CARD CHANGES

From 1st July 2014 the green Construction Site Operative (CSO) card is no longer being issued.  There is a new green CSCS card only available for people working in labouring occupations.

CSCS’ role is to provide a scheme for the construction industry that confirms site workers’ training and qualifications.  Many site workers who are carrying out skilled occupations have been applying for the green CSO card as the easiest route to gain access to construction sites.  This makes it difficult for contractors to use CSCS cards as a reliable method of checking that site workers have the appropriate skills to work on construction sites safely and effectively.

For Construction Site Operative Card holders

Your green CSO card will remain valid until its current expiry date.

If you do not work in a labouring occupation use the CSCS cardfinder to find out which is the right card for you depending on the type of work you carry out and/or the qualifications you hold.  There is further information explaining your options here.

If you work in a labouring occupation you can apply for the new green Labourer card.  You will need to provide evidence that you have achieved one of the following:

QCF Level 1 or SCQF Level 4 Award Health and Safety in a Construction Environment*

or

One day Site Safety Plus Health and Safety Awareness Course

or

IOSH Working Safely

You must also pass the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment test within two years prior to applying for a new card. You can find out more about the test here.

What is the pass mark on the cscs exam ?

The pass mark that is required for the Operative CSCS Test is 37 out of 50. In order to pass the specialized CSCS test, a score of 46 out of 50 is required. The Construction Skills Certification Scheme is a computer based multiple choice test.
